The day started at 5 am. Me and my uncle were out the door at 5 30. When we got to his buddies land he put me in a hunting shack I had never been in. I was up and alert looking for any movement in the cold dark.

Finally I had 3 deer probably 15 yards away i could make out a nice rack on one. I wanted to shoot but I held off. When it was light I seen them again. The buck was 45 yards out and I had a Remington 20 gauge slug. I drew up on him shaking like never before I tried to calm myself but really it was impossible. I fired and missed. I fired 2 more times at him and missed again.

I was so angry with myself I didn’t know what to do. I put my last 2 shells in my gun and amazingly he was still standing there. I drew up on him and fired twice. I MISSED again!!!

He and the two does finally took off over a hill and I heard a shot. My buddies dad had killed my buck. Still today I catch crap about that.
